Innovation inside future vehicles

PAC - AutoCluster for the Future intended to respond to the automotive sector's new challenges by developing intelligent and innovative technologies and materials. The researchers created an autonomous and smart microcar aimed at electric and shared urban mobility to demonstrate the concept, design and different solutions.

The Project’s consortium, led by the company Simoldes Plásticos S.A. and aligned with the action plan of Mobinov - Cluster Automóvel Portugal, comprised 9 business entities and 12 non-business entities, including CeNTI.

The innovation factor

The vehicle created by the consortium includes, in the cabin, different innovations, such as functional finishes with self-healing properties, capable of regenerating possible damages, such as scratches on panels, through radiation or heat, and thermochromic finishes and textile structures that change colour depending on temperature.

The vehicle's interior also includes an interactive transparent display with image projection and touch and gesture control, as well as a retractable dial button for user interaction with the vehicle, which integrates hybrid electronic and is produced over-moulding, reducing the electronics size and the number of production processes, enabling size reduction and reducing manufacturing costs.

The PAC Project was co-financed by the Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalisation (COMPETE 2020) and by the Lisbon Regional Operational Program (Lisboa 2020) of Portugal 2020 through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
