BIOMAT: Press highlights international Project focused on bioeconomy

Several Portuguese media have publicised BIOMAT, a European Project coordinated by CeNTI. In addition to the objectives, the press emphasised the main expected results of the Project, which aims to accelerate the European bioeconomy. The research was news in media such as Dinheiro Vivo, Exame Informática, Construir, Correio do Minho and Cidade Hoje, among others.

The articles focus on the primary purpose of the multinational consortium: to establish an Open Innovation Test Bed for the development of bio-based polyurethane foams (PUR) improved with nanomaterials aimed at the Construction/Building, Automotive, Furniture and Bedding sectors. The idea is that these new products can replace traditional petroleum-based foams that lack functional properties.

Through this innovation ecosystem, which includes scientific and technological entities, access to testing and productive and business leverage services will also be made available to European SMEs, focusing on Sustainability and Circular Economy. Companies will thus have access to pilot-scale production lines and complementary services in characterisation, evaluation of nanotoxicity, intellectual property protection, business/marketing plans and mentoring, to mention a few.

In the first phase, the services will be made available free of charge to SMEs through an Open Tender, which will be launched in January 2023, and after the end of the Project, they will be provided at competitive prices. Companies wishing to apply for this funding can now pre-register on the platform.

In addition to CeNTI, a further 25 entities are part of the Project consortium from a total of 8 countries, namely Portugal, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Latvia and Israel. BIOMAT is funded by the Horizon 2020 European Union Research and Innovation Program.
