Project for implementation of KETs in the National Industry

According to the European Commission, the development of competitiveness and innovation at the cutting edge of technology for the well-being, prosperity and security of citizens is essential.

Within this philosophy of evolution and technological progress, and with the aim of establishing viable conditions for a healthy and egalitarian economy, allowing the modernization of Europe's "productive base" (and the emergence of a new industrial revolution), the European Union is investing in the application of Key Enabling Technologies as a key tool to develop a new range of innovative products, processes and services in all industrial sectors. In Portugal, this mission was entrusted to CeNTI - Centre of Nanotechnology and Smart Materials, through the bKET project.

The KETs are a set of different ideologies of technological innovation, grouped into 6 axes: micro and nanoelectronics, nanotechnology, industrial biotechnologies, advanced materials, photonics, and advanced manufacturing technologies. All this, with the aim of implementing a progressive digitization and automation of the productive industries, creating new sustainable products and services, fostering job creation and economic growth in the European space, responding to the new social challenges of the XXI century.

The great difficulty that C.E. faces in this process is the lack of platforms that effectively respond to the gap between the knowledge and technology developed and its application in the industry. And it’s in this context that the bKET project is positioned. Promote the transfer of scientific and technological knowledge in the area of Key Enabling Technologies (KETs) to the national business sector, through actions of demonstration, dissemination and valorization of knowledge.

As such, the fundamental objective of bKET is to put Portugal in the spotlight on the European scene, promoting and raising national industries in international competitive ecosystems. For this, CeNTI intends to develop several mechanisms that endow Portuguese companies with tools that are incorporated into their business models, using partnerships, technical and knowledge demonstrations, dissemination and valorization of knowledge, allowing these entities to introduce innovative products and services in international markets, resulting from the technological transfer of solutions incorporating KETs.

The project is financed by the Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER) through the Operacional Competitividade e Internacionalização Program (Compete2020), within the framework of the Sistema de Apoio a Ações Coletivas, with an eligible investment of 659 thousand euros with an incentive of around 560 thousand euros.
