ReInvent: nature at the service of Construction and Automotive sectors
It is yet another innovative Project signed by CeNTI. The ReInvent Project aims to create biomaterials and natural fibres for the Construction and Automotive sectors. The main objective is to eliminate the use of fossil-based foam in the production of structural and insulation materials.
Within the scope of the research, advanced technologies are being used in the development of biopolyols, cellulose fibres and nanocrystals and other functional nanoparticles, from sustainable sources, such as agroforestry residues and by-products from bio refineries. These are intended to have improved properties and a lower economic and environmental impact, either in the manufacturing process or in the cost of production.
The innovative products developed will then be applied in the manufacture of structural and insulation materials (used in the construction industry) and foams (for the interior of vehicles), replacing petroleum-derived polyurethane.
The idea is that they have, among other features, high thermal insulation capacity and mechanical performance, low density, flame retardancy, acoustic insulation and antifungal properties. In addition to these characteristics, the materials developed for the car interior will present other aesthetic features and improved thermal comfort/feeling.
Developed by an international consortium, made up of 16 entities, ReInvent Project is funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program.
