SMART4CAR: technological innovation at the service of the automotive sector
SMART4CAR, called “Smart Surfaces For Automotive Components”, is a differentiating Project that aims to endow car components with intelligent, decorative and functional features.
It looks like a vision of the future. Still, it is a reality being developed by Inoveplastika, S.A., CeNTI, University of Minho, PIEP - Innovation in Polymer Engineering and INL - International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory, within the scope of the Bosch Suppliers Club Portugal.
The Project, which aims to innovate automotive design, covers the development of high precision lenses with different surface coatings for integration into sensor systems that will enhance autonomous driving.
SMART4CAR also aims at the direct introduction, by In-Mould Decoration (IMD), of films with decorative and functional functionalities in the overmoulding process, as well as the application of this IMD technique on three-dimensional surfaces.
With these technological solutions, the consortium aims to respond to the needs and trends observed in the automotive sector, namely in terms of customisation and aesthetic preferences of drivers.
SMART4CAR is co-financed by Portugal 2020 under the Competitiveness and Internationalization Operational Program (COMPETE 2020) of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
