CeNTI promotes Portuguese innovation at Techtextil 2024

The Centre for Nanotechnology and Smart Materials will once again attend Techtextil, one of the most important international trade fairs for technical textiles, nonwovens and apparel textiles, which will be held in Frankfurt, Germany, from 23rd to 26th.

At From Portugal space, located in Hall 11.1, the Centre will showcase, in joint spaces with  CITEVE (stand D34A and C37A), several disruptive technological solutions that rely on CeNTI's know-how and are intended to have a positive impact on society's life and future. It's the case of GreenAuto, BE.Neutral, HfPT, ILLIANCE, TEXP@CT, PBA, Giatex, AM2R, RN21, and be@t Agendas.

The 20th edition of Techtextil will also highlight the SRS - Smart Roof Systems Project, aimed at the Construction sector, winner of Techtextil Innovation Award, in the “New Product” category.

According to the fair's organisers, this promises to be the biggest event ever and will be the privileged meeting point for promoting and disseminating innovation made in Portugal.

Over four days, the event will become the spot for thousands of professionals, researchers and world's leading players across the entire value chain in high-tech textiles. They will have the opportunity to present and discuss the latest trends and insights in the industry.

Disruptive technology for Construction wins Innovation Award

An advanced waterproofing system for roofs in buildings with thermal reflectance capability. This was the technological solution distinguished by Techtextil Innovation Awards in the "New Product" category.

The Prize, which will be presented during the event, aims to highlight cutting-edge developments, promote unconventional thinking, and intensify dialogue between researchers, manufacturers, and users.

Applied to flat building roofs, this new system aims to respond to cracking and durability problems. It consists of a water-based polymer membrane additivated and reinforced with an intelligent textile substrate capable of monitoring parameters such as temperature, humidity, and heat, and accelerating the healing process through active heating. The result is a differentiating solution with better performance and more sustainable than conventional products.

The innovation was developed as part of the Smart Roofs Systems Project by a multidisciplinary consortium comprising various organisations, including CeNTI, CITEVE, Saint-Gobain, Têxteis Penedo and Itecons. It was co-financed by PORTUGAL 2020 under COMPETE 2020 and ERDF.
