SMART4CAR
Smart Surfaces For Automotive Components

In the automotive industry, the demand for cars increasingly customized, and adapted to the aesthetic preferences of consumers, has increased in recent years. This demand has promoted R&D around the design and production of polymeric pieces with high decorative requirements.
Another major challenge that will impact the future of the automotive sector is driving completely autonomously. For it to become a reality, the car must be equipped with several sensor systems, which include high precision optical lenses with very strict requirements.
The SMART4CAR project intends to respond to these opportunities / challenges for the future of the automotive industry, through the development of new technological solutions for the use of IMD technique in the over-moulding process of bi-material components and for the development of high precision lenses.
Main goals
- The direct introduction, by In Mold Decoration (IMD), of films with decorative and functional features, in the overmolding process;
- The application of the IMD technique on three-dimensional surfaces;
- Development of high precision lenses for the automotive sector, with different surface coatings.
