SAP4MA: Active and intelligent packaging for margarines
It is called SAP4MA, and it is an innovative Project that aims to develop active and intelligent packaging for margarine. The technology is being developed by a consortium comprising CeNTI, CENTIMFE - Centro Tecnológico da Indústria de Moldes, Ferramentas Especiais e Plásticos, BIOACTIVE Research and Innovation, and the companies Besler, SEM Plastik, Nanomik and MOLDIT Industries.
The Project intends to develop functional coatings and smart labels. The release of antioxidant agents at the functional coatings, in a controlled and lasting way, will be activated by action of an intelligent label without affecting the intrinsic characteristics of the product, contributing to the maximization of its lifetime and without compromising the organoleptic properties and its quality. .
In practice, the main objectives of SAP4MA are the development of printed electronic devices, in the form of smart labels for food packaging, their integration into the injection moulding process of margarine packaging lids, and the development and application of nano encapsulated active agents and “Food Approved” and/or “Food Contact Approved” smart coatings.
SAP4MA is taking place within the EURIPIDES2 Cluster from EUREKA network, and is co-financed by Portugal 2020 under the Competitiveness and Internationalization Operational Program (COMPETE 2020) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
