Circularity and Performance – A strategy for a greener future

The impact of Industry on the environment requires heightened attention and a relevant legislative framework for raising awareness, driving change, and regenerating the damage caused. It is crucial to transform the system, driven by new standards for sustainable production and consumption.

With the emergence of studies, debates, and definitions about sustainability in various industry sectors, the urgency of exploring alternatives and perspectives for the transition from the current linear model to circular systems becomes evident. This can be achieved by analysing issues related to inputs, waste generation, reuse, and disposal.

This is, indeed, one of the areas of great importance at CeNTI, which possesses transversal skills and technologies in the different stages of developing innovative products with functional and distinctive properties. The focus has been on the R&D strategies for product valorisation, particularly through the eco-design of solutions, the development of multifunctional solutions, and the exploration of strategies for the valorisation and functionalisation of waste and by-products to develop more ecological materials, enhancing simultaneously industrial symbiosis.

Additionally, the Centre has also focused on developing sustainable, biocompatible, and biodegradable sensing, outlining processes aimed at reducing energy and water consumption. It is also of great importance for CeNTI to evaluate and validate the performance of the innovative products developed, both during their development and in final validation in a real environment.
