Nano/Micro-scale Intelligence – Modernisation and Transformation of Industry
The miniaturisation of devices, systems, and components has revolutionised and significantly impacted different industrial and social sectors. With application in diverse areas, such as electronics, medicine, manufacturing, energy, among others, miniaturisation technologies have evolved steadily, enabling the creation of increasingly complex and efficient solutions and applications, at an affordable cost.
Microfabrication and printed intelligence are important areas for CeNTI, where extensive work has already been done. Through microfabrication, it is possible to develop miniaturised devices, such as sensors, microelectromechanical systems (MEMs), microfluidic devices, and nanostructured coatings, using different techniques, including direct laser writing photolithography, thermal evaporation, sputtering, and e-beam. In the field of printed intelligence, this enables the development of flexible electronics using different printing techniques, namely screen printing, slot-die, spin coating, doctor blade, inkjet, and roll-to-roll, for application in different sectors.
With existing technologies at CeNTI, new materials and devices have been developed for numerous applications, such as flexible displays, RFID tags, food packaging labels, solar cells, photovoltaic panels, sensors, actuators, and wearables.
These areas offer numerous advantages, such as high precision, large-scale production, and customisation, enabling the creation of fully flexible, lightweight, and adaptable solutions.
