Development of materials for sustainable insulation for building systems

The EcoSys2Build project aims to develop sustainable insulation systems for use in various building envelope solutions, such as façades and roofs, using non-fossil-based, bio-based materials and/or incorporating recycled materials or industrial waste/by-products.

The technical focus lies in optimising the thermal performance and fire behaviour of the new systems. In addition, ecodesign tools will be applied to quantify environmental impacts and identify strategies to improve the environmental performance of materials and processes throughout their life cycle.

Main Goals/Activities

Develop material solutions, with a particular focus on the use of renewable and/or bio-based raw materials, and on the valorisation of waste as a resource;
Apply production technologies and ecodesign strategies in the development of construction systems suitable for insulation;

Assess the environmental impact of the solutions through Life Cycle Analysis (LCA).
