T-PRISM

Toilet Platform for Real-time Integrated Sensing and Monitoring for Analysis

The T-PRISM project aims to develop a smart sanitary solution for continuous and non-invasive health monitoring, focusing on the early detection of cardiovascular, renal and gastrointestinal alterations. The solution integrates physiological and biochemical sensors, functional materials, computer vision and artificial intelligence for the automated collection and interpretation of clinical data in domestic, clinical or institutional environments.

The project’s core element is the ablute_COMPASS smart toilet, which combines sensing technologies such as ECG, PPG, bioimpedance, temperature monitoring, multiparametric urinalysis and fecal assessment through computer vision.

The project aims to develop and validate, in a relevant environment, a functional system capable of supporting regular health monitoring, early disease detection and clinical follow-up, transforming an everyday sanitary device into an active digital health platform.

Main Goals/Activities

  • Develop a smart sanitary solution incorporating an automated urinalysis system for the detection of 14 clinically relevant biomarkers associated with cardiovascular and nephrological health assessment.

  • Develop a sanitary solution with enhanced durability through the application of advanced materials and coatings, enabling the integration of electrodes for ECG and bioimpedance measurement, as well as customised sensors for PPG and temperature monitoring.

  • Develop a sanitary solution incorporating a system for fecal assessment and occult blood detection in stool.
  • Develop software integrating algorithms for processing physiological and biochemical data (ECG, bioimpedance, PPG, urinalysis, fecal assessment and temperature) to support the identification of cardiac, nephrological and gastrointestinal conditions.

  • Integrate multiple functionalities, including functional materials and coatings, health monitoring systems and predictive algorithms, into the ablute_COMPASS smart toilet, validating the solution in a relevant environment.
